Gali's heart was heavy as she returned from the wedding. While was delighted to see her old friends happily married, it made her feel more alone. Gali was a hopeless romantic. She loved old movies, and had a whole shelf full of them. Ghost was her current favourite, and she had eight different versions of Romeo and Juliet. Well, she was still all by herself. It would be great to have someone to watch those films with... even better to be the star in her own romance.
But there were other fish in the pond. Clone, a strange name, belonged to a guy she had met at the wedding today and they had really hit it off. He was a dreamy kisser, and a fine dancer. He had told her he was a lawyer.
She invited him over for an evening, and after dinner, and dessert, he told her he had to study - some legal precedents for his work. "Oh, that's fine, I do understand how men have to work. But I'll tell you what - don't worry about getting dressed again. I'll put my film on quietly, so it doesn't disturb you. I've got the centra heating turned up and it's lovely and warm in here, so I'll be able to enjoy watching you as you read."
Like most males, Clone was not particularly body-conscious about his own body. It was quite a challenge to keep focussed, but he did manage to get through the chapter of Nelly's Legal Precedents for Sim Courts he had set himself to learn this evening.
Of course, he stayed overnight - and the next night - and the next. With him going home to the castle only to pick up clean clothing and more books, they soon established a routine. Gali loved having him at her house. "This feels almost as if we were already married!" she giggled. "Ooops - did I say that out loud?" she grinned at Clone.
He looked uncomfortable and cleared his throat. "Gali. There is something I have to tell you."
She watched him. Now what was on his mind? She knew he had a son already, by the late Jill Smith. Well, maybe she would be that hopeless romantic after all. She braced herself as he said "There's no easy way to say this. I'm engaged."
"Oh." she smiled. "Is that a problem?"
"As a lawyer I would say no. No contract has been drawn up... But I was supposed to be marrying LaShawn. In the spring."
She snuggled up to him, so that her arm was above his head and his head was resting somewhere soft. "Do you still want to?" she murmured.
".... noooo." he laughed. "It will upset her though."
"Since we are exchanging secrets, I have something to tell you, too."
He nuzzled. "What's that?"
"I think I'm pregnant."
"Oh my! He hugged her hard. I guess I will have to marry you then. Is - are - are you well? I can;t forget what happened to Jill."
"Poor Jill. Yes, I am very well, thank you. I'm sure everything will be all right. Don't you worry."
The next Tuesday, Gali was on her way off to work. It was Clone's day off and he had planned to do some serious studying. His work was falling behind schedule.
Gali called him from outside. "Clone, you need to deal with this. I have to go to work."
Here was LaShawn, waiting for him on the pavement. He couldn't help but see that she was pregnant.
"It's your baby of course."
"I know. Come inside the house. We need to talk," he said.
Over a breakfast of toaster pastries, he and LaShawn agreed to separate. LaShawn was very unhappy. He had cared for her, but he felt Gali was The One for him, he explained. He would make sure she and her child were provided for. "I have a good income, you won't want for anything."
"It's you I want," said LaShawn. She was a strong Sim, she wasn't going to let herself cry. "We will manage somehow.
"I know."
"I don't want to lose you. Can we just be friends?"
"Of course we can! I'ld like that."
"What days does Gali have off work? I'll come see you sometimes." She took to visiting when she knew Gali wouldn't be there, and they remained very close friends.
