Blessed are the Cheesemakers

Bob Newbie, finding himself alone once again for reasons that are not made clear, decided he would buy a tiny house on the edge of town with his remaining capital.

A simple bachelor house, with a wood burning stove and room for a little clutter. But one thing it did have was a large barn.

With much scrubbing, hammering and cursing, the barn was converted into a roomy home for a couple of cows and a bull, and a fitted kitchen for butter and cheese-making. At the front was a tiny study area. A small wind generator was built above the barn to provide necessary power, and Bob made a tiny office at the front.

He started with a cow and a bull donated by his Aunt Rosebud, who said she hoped it would be a good investment. A small windmill on the roof provided power for the cheesemaking and for his home.

The barn is divided into two main rooms; one for the cattle and one for the cheese processing. These being a special breed of cattle called COL, there is no fouling and the conditions for cheesemaking are very hygienic. The "troughs" for the cattle to drink from are actually lights.

Before long they had a calf, then another, and gradually he built up his small herd. He found a ratio of one bull to two cows worked well, as, he said, he had always thought it should! Meanwhile they made a lot of milk, cutting his food bills so far that he was able to give up his boring office job.

Notes

From the Simslice readme I discovered that COL cattle actually produce more milk, and more calves, if kept in relatively crowded conditions. I had always had them roaming the lot before. But they certainly do produce a lot of milk! Bob rarely needs to cook at all, lives mostly on milk, cheese and butter and sells the milk and butter, as well as the meat from calves. I haven't yet found a Sims object that allows the "proper" making of cheese, but the large tank looks something like a cheesemaking tank.

The cattle are from SimSlice of course. There are also items from Persimmon Grove, Hooty Holler, Candace's Sims Bazaar (now defunct) and Parsimonious in the pictures. The original house was a Maxian original, simply expanded.
