[ Themes ]
When I first saw The Sims, before I started to play it, it appeared to me to be a kind of mini-"I love Lucy" game, and as such, it didn't appeal very much. Once I started to play it and discovered I could make houses, and actually CONTROL the Sims... well that was different - grins - and once I discovered I might be actually able to MAKE things for Sims, I was well and truly addicted. (Life in an English inner city was never like that!) I have in fact played much more with the "grunge" style of Sims. But the mid 20th Century squeaky clean American style still haunts the Sims. Playing with historically themed neighbourhoods circumvents it. If you can laugh at yourself for playing, it does work amazingly well as a kind of parody.
