The Slot Machine
When a Sim is playing with the original red slot machine
AND their "Fun meter" is empty (totally red), they will ALWAYS win.
When a Sim is playing the same slot machine with their "Fun meter"
full (ie totally green), they will ALWAYS lose.
Note that if the Sim wins just one round when their Fun meter is empty, next
round their chance of winning will drop enormously, even the fun meter just
increased a little.
- Get Santa to pay a visit! You need a fireplace, a Christmas tree, a plate
of cookies (on a table close to fireplace and tree), and make sure all your
Sims are in bed by 8:00 pm. After that, watch the tree, and Santa should appear
with some special gifts.
- In Downtown (Hot Date only) Mrs Crumplebottom might come and slap your Sims
if they kiss and cuddle in public.
- (House Party only) If you hire the female performer to do the cake party
dance, and there is a child in the room, a pink monkey will come instead.
- (Livin' Large or Deluxe only) If you put the Jack O'Lantern outside and
turn it on, sometimes after dark the Grim Reaper may come and ring your doorbell.
- Claire the Bear (Hot Date only), a female bear with a bow in her hair, might
come to your Sims' house, Downtown, or Vacation island. She goes through your
dustbin and how she reacts depends on what she sees. She can fall in love
with a teddy bear, start to cry after seeing a bear skin rug, or chase your
sims away on a picnic.
- If your Sims look through the telescope they could be abducted by aliens
(a pretty rare event). The Sim will disappear for a day or two, and will return
with their personality reset. (Permanently traumatised by their experience!)
- Info about the slot machines was given in an interview with Will Wright.
If you take your sim downtown and let all the moods drop to the lowest points
possible (it is impossible to die or fall asleep downtown), your sim will
likely win on the slot machines within three tries. The reason why you see
more sims winning downtown as compared to in the homes is because sims cannot
fall asleep. So they are able to play the slot machines even though they
are
severely in the red.
- Did you know your Sims will fly out of the top of the skydiving simulator
to their deaths, if you block the doorway with something so they can't get
out? They will yell, "Wheeee!" when they go flying. They shoot up
into the sky and a tombstone appears next to the simulator.
- (Livin' Large or Deluxe only) The chemistry set is useful and fun. See.
- Red makes the Sim who drinks the potion become enamoured with another
Sim in the neighbourhood.
- Orange causes the Sim who drinks the potion to become invisible for
a short period of time.
- Yellow reverses the Sim's personality traits.
- Light Green decreases all the motive meters as well as decreases the
mood meter of the Sim who drinks the potion.
- Green creates an evil clone of the Sim who drinks the potion.
- Blue increases some of the motive meters as well as increases the mood
meter of the Sim who drinks the potion.
- Purple causes the Sim who drinks the potion to become a brain-dead
and very destructive monster for a short period of time.
- White cures the Sim who drinks it if he/she is sick.
- (House Party only) If your Sims sit around the campfire telling stories
and the Sim telling the story has charisma or creativity better then 8 you
have a chance of raising a ghost; this will scare away all the other Sims.
- Graves or urns (from dead Sims) on your lot give random chances of having
ghosts wander around your house. The ghosts will look like the Sims who died,
but will be blue and transparent. Even if they died in the lot before your
family even moved in, if their graves are there, they will come back to haunt
your family. For an example of this play the Goth house for a while. That
cemetery of theirs contains many family members.
- If your Sims are in a bad mood, and have the picture of the tragic clown
in their house, the tragic clown will come. He will try to cheer them
up (but
he will fail). There are two ways to get rid of him. One way to get rid of
him is to improve all your Sims' moods to all green (which is hard while
the
clown is there). Or you can download the "clown catcher patch" from
the official Sims website and then your Sim can pay to have the clown removed.
- (House Party only) Throw a bad party and the party crashers will come. If
it is a really bad party the Mime will come and try to entertain your guests.
The Mime steals small tabletop items when nobody is watching...
- (House Party only) Drew Carey (from the "Drew Carey Show" and
ABC's "Whose Line Is It Anyway?") comes when you throw an awesome
party. All your guests will run to greet him when he arrive in a limo, and
they will all talk about him.
- (Livin' Large or Deluxe only). If a Sim dies the Grim Reaper will come
and take their soul away. If you don't want to lose your Sim forever to
death,
have another Sim in the family "Plead" with the Grim Reaper to
spare taking the Sim's life. The outcome depends on the relationship of
pleader to deceased.
- With Livin' Large you can "play" in the heart bed, in Hot Date
you can "play" in the heart-shaped Love Tub, and in Hot Date and
Vacation you can "play" in the dressing booths and dressing tents.
To "Play" in the dressing booths and tents have your date try on
clothes or change clothes, while they are in the changing tent or booth click
on it and they can "play". Don't ask me why they bark...
- (Livin' Large only) your Sims can live like Aladdin. Buy the magic lamp
and then have your Sims "clean" it. The magical genie of the lamp
will come out to grant your Sim a wish. Be careful for what you wish for,
the genie does not always get the spell right! Sim might receive a pot
of gold, or a pile of roaches.
- Sims can get sick. With Livin' Large (or the Guinea Pig download) your
Sims can get sick if they are bitten by the Guinea Pig. Another way to get
sick
is with Vacation, where they can catch Montezuma's Revenge or diaorrhoea.
These illnesses can be fatal. The best cure is rest and good hygiene, or
a
(white) potion from the Chemistry Set.
- On the neighbourhood map click on the bill board in the lower left-hand
corner (The one that says "The Sims"). The game credits will come
up and will play some Simlish music.
- With House Party you can get a cool message from the "House
Party development staff". To get the hidden message you need to buy
the
"Jungle Jumble Import Display", the wall decoration that looks
like a round shelf with a head on it. Then have one of your Sims view the
object
and a hidden message will pop-up.
- Answering the phone can be profitable. You could win some extra cash or
other prizes! But beware of the "Prank Callers" who strike when
you don't always want. Don't put a phone in a bedroom unless you want your
Sims to be woken at all hours by prank callers.
- (Unleashed only) in the Neighbourhood screen, watch the water along the
bottom of the screen for a while and you will see Nessie (the sea monster
from Sim City 2000) appear in the estuary. She will pop out of the water
and
then go away again.
- (Superstar only) Christina Aguilera, Andy Warhol and Marilyn Monroe may
just show up in Studio Town. Your Sims will love to flock and swarm them,
asking from autographs and photos. These stars make Drew Carey (see above)
look like child's play.
- (Makin' Magic only) If a beanstalk starts to grow on your lot and your Sim
climbs it, he will find The Sims creator Will Wright at the top, in a magic
lot in the clouds.
- The Maxis moose head can tell you the mood of the Sims on the lot. When
the general mood is good, the moose's antlers are up but as the mood drops
they start to droop.
- Another thing with the Grim Reaper-- if he appears and you have the skeleton
maid from MM, and also Superstar installed, there's a chance she'll ask for
his autograph.
- if your Sim visits the Gothic Quarter lot in Old Town and have Miss Lucille
read her palm, it will max out her needs! For 20 simoleons, that's
a pretty good
deal! It doesn't work everytime though, you need to keep asking her to do
it until it works. The most I've spent trying and at last finally having
success
is $120. One of the messages you get that denote no mood boosting is "Your
back pocket is a little lighter now", if I remember correctly.
- I do know that Miss Lucille can also change zombie Sims (the result of
your Sim pleading with the Grim Reaper for another Sim's life, if he
lets him
live
but
makes him into a zombie) back into regular Sims.
- An unpleasant Sim may *kick* a gnome, which may *explode*, and set off a
*chain reaction* of explosions among other nearby gnomes!! The Sim has to
be in a very bad mood to do it.
- "The Wrath of the Garden Gnomes". If you have MM and cast the
Perfect Garden spell while there are gnomes on the lot, they get VERY angry
and come to life and attack your Sim by kicking him in the shins. Then they
trash the entire garden so you have to replant it all.
