For me, Harry Potter's world blends happily with Victorian, Goth and Mediaeval styles, although purists might prefer to set it in the late 20th Century, as it is in the books. Popular as it is, there is quite a lot of Harry Potter out there on the net, for both Sims 1 and 2. An internet search for "Harry Potter" and Sims will often find new gems. Hogwarts is indeed a mediaeval building, about a thousand years old according to the books; and the descriptions of the banking and business system, as well as the nearby village and the Weasley home, all seem rather "quaint".
For me it also fits well with steampunk themes.
